The Approaching Olympic Games and the Situation in Tibet
Honourable President Hu,
I have always respected the Chinese people for its kindness and hard work.
However I have an issue, that is very dear to me, and that I want to persist and bring in focus:
The Freedom of the Tibetans
I am writing to you to draw your attention to the outstanding opportunity the approaching Olympic Games in China in 2008 makes to show out for the world the progress, which have taken place in China during the recent years, among others concerning human rights.
You can do so by opening negotiations with the Tibetan government-in-excile on the issue of self-government in Tibet, which will be to the benefit of both parts.
The Tibetan people are close related to the Greenlandic. Greenland has been a part of Denmark, now practicing self-government on domestic issues. I was living in Greenland in the period of transformation to self-government. This was made in small steps, with great success and to the benefit of both parts, but of cause not without problems.
It is my hope for humanity, that we all will be able to live in peace and harmony, disregarding to differences in form of government, religion etc. – and that we will not oppress the happiness and freedom of other people.
In my opinion it is possible, the movement is developing – and you have the possibility to make a great and historical contribution to this – and at the same time profile your country.
Respectfully yours,
